What I love and remember most about the Newton Country Day School community are the teachers. They all so clearly cared about me and each was so accessible. In college, it’s harder to form those bonds and it certainly takes more of an effort to get close to faculty.
- Sofia Carrera ‘11, Yale University
The goal of Newton’s college guidance program is to match each student’s abilities, strengths, personal preferences and career aspirations to the best possible college or university. Designed to be highly individualized and comprehensive, our college guidance process begins informally when students enter the Upper School and meet with their advisors to outline a course of study for their Upper School years. We formally begin the process in junior year when the Head of the Upper School, the Headmistress, and College Guidance Director meet with juniors and their parents to bring clarity to the college selection process. Individual as well as small group sessions are held to discuss topics such as conducting an admissions interview, processing the application, writing the college essay, and planning for financial aid. The School hosts a number of workshops to support parents and families as they navigate this complex process. Newton students go on to attend and thrive at some of the most competitive colleges in the United States and abroad.
