Gospel Choir
This course is open to all Upper School students. Students develop an understanding of Gospel music as a genre uniquely rooted in the African-American experience while exploring various styles within the tradition. Spirituals, traditional Gospel, and a contemporary fusion of Gospel with secular styles, comprise a diverse repertoire within which students are called upon to meld spiritual experience with artistic expression. The development of an individual voice and a well-balanced choral sound are enhanced by the demands for flexibility of vocal control and emphasis on listening skills. Performances occur throughout the school year and as invitations for outside engagements arise.
Instrumental and Vocal Instruction
Private instruction in piano, brass, strings, woodwinds, and voice is available to any student after school for a nominal fee. Registration is completed in September for a full year’s instruction.
