Sacred Heart schools across the country host service immersion projects that bring together students to live on or near Sacred Heart campuses in the U.S. There, they serve in diverse ways: with Habitat for Humanity, at food and clothing banks, in soup kitchens, with developmentally-disabled adults, with children affected by homelessness, in the juvenile justice system, at summer camps for disadvantaged children or at cooperative farms with inner city youth. Their summer service introduces students to a range of social issues and problems.
Recognizing that direct service must be supplemented by education about larger issues, students conduct research and reflect on the specific social issues their project addresses.
