Shakespeare Performance Project
Each year, Middle School students in Grades six through eight perform a work by William Shakespeare. In addition to acting, students are largely responsible for choreography, costumes, prop design, and all technical components of the performance. The performance project is enhanced by writing assignments which can include character analysis, discussion of theme and symbolism, or a director’s approach.

Dramatic and Musical Productions
Students interested in participating in drama have many options. The Upper School stages a major dramatic production in the fall, participates in the Massachusetts State Drama Festival in the winter, and produces a musical in the spring. More experienced students who have shown a commitment to the theatre program may submit a proposal to direct. Students are also encouraged to work as designers, technicians, and stage managers. Some past Upper School plays have included: The Tempest, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Twelve Angry Women, Antigone, and CATS. Middle School students traditionally perform a Gilbert & Sullivan operetta: Utopia Limited, Sullivan and Gilbert, Pirates of Penzance, The Mikado, HMS Pinafore, or Iolanthe. All students work in the state-of-the-art theatre, mentored by teachers and artists, most of whom pursue their own work as directors, musicians, dancers, actors, or designers in the Boston arts community.
