General Announcements

Mass of the Holy Spirit

NCDS will celebrate the Mass of the Holy Spirit on Tuesday, September 11 at Trinity Chapel. All students are asked to dress appropriately.

Back to School Nights

The Middle School Back to School Night is Tuesday, September 18 and the Upper School Back to School Night is Thursday, September 20. Both begin at 7:00 p.m. Dinner and supervised study will be provided for any student who needs to stay at Newton Country Day either of those evenings.

Car Pool Rules

There is a new car pool system. The new rules are designed for safety and efficiency. Please be aware of the adults giving directions. The system will be reviewed as the year progresses.

Upon entering the campus:
Turn off all cell phones.
Drive slowly. The speed limit is 10 mph.
Live parking only in designated yellow spaces.
Pull forward to the next available spot before picking up students.
Do not double-park.
If a space is not available drive around.
Return to Centre Street and reenter the campus.
Do not allow students to enter your car unless at the curb.
Use the curb side car doors for students entering the vehicle.

Suggestions:
Stagger arrival times. Arriving fifteen minutes after carpool starts will alleviate congestion and allow for a smoother dismissal.
Designate a carpool leader. The older students should be organizing the younger girls to be ready and alert to the arrivals.
Consider arranging to pick up your daughter on Colby Road.

The Parents' Association meeting begins at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 13. Coffee and conversation precedes the meeting. All parents are members of the Association and are welcomed and encouraged to attend the meetings throughout the year. This is a wonderful opportunity to get acquainted with each other and support your daughter's school.

Please consider volunteering for the 2007-2008 Parents' Association. For a complete list of events and volunteer opportunities, please visit the Parents Page of the website at www.newtoncountryday.org.

Save the Date: There are a number of activities that begin in September as soon as school resumes: Grade Level class coffees, and Parents' Association meetings. These activities provide an opportunity to meet other families in your daughter's class. Please check the Parents page of the Newton Country Day School website for updated information.

Completed forms are due in the Health Office. Please note that if your daughter is participating in a fall sports program, the forms are due by the time the program begins.

Please inform the Health Office if your daughter’s health has changed over the summer.

Yearbook Orders

Parents, if you forgot to order for your daughter a copy of the 2008 NCDS yearbook, remember that you can do so by going to the Varsity Books website. Or, if it's more convenient, you may send in a check for $65, payable to NCDS. Address the envelope to the attention of Mr. John Tierney, the yearbook's advisor. Add $5 more if you want your daughter's name inscribed on the cover.

MBTA T-Passes

T-passes are available for $20 per month. If you need to buy passes monthly, orders must be in by the following dates. For September and October orders must be in by September 5. For all other months, orders must be in by the second day of the previous month. Check should be made out to Newton Country Day School. Contact Mrs. Haddad if you have any questions.

The Back Bay Bus service will begin on Wednesday, September 6.

Parking

Student cars must be registered with the Business Office. Student parking is limited and restricted to assigned areas. If there are more seniors than parking spaces, spaces will be awarded through a lottery. Due to the limited number of parking spaces, sophomores and juniors are not allowed to park on campus. During the winter months parking for students may not be available at all.

School Pictures

This year we will use McGrath Studios for our school pictures. School pictures will be taken on Thursday, September 27, 2007 for Middle School students and Monday, October 1, 2007 for Upper School students. Students will receive more information during the first few weeks of school and more information about McGrath Studios is available on their website: www.mcgrathstudios.com. Any student who is absent on her picture day will have an opportunity to have their picture taken at a later date.
