How Do We Celebrate Christmas at Newton?

The liturgical season of Advent begins on Sunday, December 2. Throughout the month, the NCDS community will observe the season by keeping the focus on the religious nature of Advent. The girls participate in “Advent Angels” by bringing a small gift to another student on Thursdays.

Students may choose to participate in the Advent Angels gift exchange within their class. The total cost of the entire activity should not exceed $12. The schedule is as follows:

Week of November 26: pick names

Thursday, December 13: give something handmade (a picture, poem, story etc.)
Thursday, December 20: Upper School final gift, reveal identity
Friday, December 21: Middle School final gift, reveal identity

Christmas Baskets: Throughout December, Advisory Groups and TAG Teams will prepare Christmas Baskets for families at Harbor Point, Dorchester. Students will receive information about food supplies and gifts early in the month. Baskets will be delivered on Saturday, December 22 from 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. All parents are invited to sign up for an hour’s shift to help deliver the baskets. If you would like to volunteer, please contact Ms. Anne Theriault. Thank you in advance for your generosity.

Vespers is the major all-school prayer service. The vespers service of music, readings, and dance is the highlight of the Advent season. Please refer to the enclosed information sheet for important details. Middle School Vespers will be held on Tuesday, December 18. Upper School Vespers will be held on Thursday, December 20.
