Campus Ministry

Eleventh Grade Kairos Retreat: The Eleventh Grade will leave for the Kairos Retreat at the La Salette Center for Christian Living in Attleboro, MA, after classes on Tuesday, February 2 and return the evening of Friday, February 5. Please direct any questions to the Campus Ministry Office.

The Hesed Program: Following the Sophomore Service Day, students received an introduction to the Hesed Program. Information relating to the requirements of Hesed, a list of previously used Hesed sites and all Hesed forms may be accessed on the school intranet site: Students should begin investigating service opportunities during February and schedule an appointment with Ms. Theriault and Mrs. Milone to discuss ideas for Hesed. They are encouraged to attend the Teen-Life Community Service Fair on February 7 and visit with non-profit organizations at NCDS on Tuesday, February 23, from 12:00 - 2:00 p.m.

Massachusetts State Drama Festival

NCDS will participate in the Preliminary Round of the Massachusetts State Drama Festival on Saturday, February 27 at 10:00 a.m. at Weston High School. The students will perform an excerpt from Cagebirds by David Compton.

Summer Science Opportunities

The Science Department encourages students to explore summer science enrichment programs. The following students were involved in summer 2009 science activities. Lauren Grimes ’10, - two-week psychology course at Boston University; Lyndsay Kerwin ’10 - six-week research internship in Biochemistry at Boston University; Jaime McKenna ’10 - six week research in genetics at University of Pennsylvania; Madison Sargis ’10 - National Student Leadership Conference for Advanced Medicine and Healthcare; Margaret Berkeley ’11 - Children’s Hospital. Sofia Carrera ’11 - six week research at the Schepen’s Eye Research Institute; Amber Dickerson ’11 - Boston Medical Center; Alana Keane ’12 - one week at National Park Services, San Francisco; Makenzie Mitchell ’12 - forensics in the Boston Police Headquarters’ Lab. Audi Best Buddies Challenge

In collaboration with the 10th grade service project, Mr. Hoks is forming an NCDS team to participate in the Audi Best Buddies Challenge, an annual bicycle ride that ends in Hyannis Port ( All are invited to join the team. Each individual will need to raise $1,500 to do the ride. Fundraising directly supports Best Buddies and helps improve the lives of people with intellectual disabilities. Team members may choose a 20 mile, 50 mile, or 100 mile route. To join, go to To pledge a donation to the cause, you may do so at the same page. College Guidance

Financial Aid Information: The FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is available online at It is imperative that students file as soon as possible. Students should check the website for further support and information. All colleges require the FAFSA. Students seeking financial aid for college should determine as soon as possible whether colleges where they will submit an application require the CSS profile. Go to each college’s financial aid website to determine if the CSS Profile is required. If so, seniors and their parents should immediately complete the CSS Profile on-line. The CSS Profile is available at The CSS Profile is only a preliminary application for some private colleges.

EIL Tournaments: The EIL hockey tournament semi-final game will be held Wednesday February 24 (location to be determined) and the championship game will be held Saturday February 27 at Portsmouth Abbey School. On Saturday, February 27 the EIL basketball tournament will be held at Dana Hall and volleyball will be held at Bancroft School. The squash team will play in the New England Squash Tournament on Saturday, February 27 and Sunday, February 28 (location to be determined.)

Dance Team: The Dance Team won first place in their division in the Emmanuel College Dance Competition in January. They also won the “Grand Champion” trophy for receiving the highest score of the entire competition.

Spring sports tryouts begin the week of March 1. Tryout schedule will be posted on the athletic website.
