Sophomore Service Day

On Wednesday, February 8, the sophomore class ventured into the community to participate in direct service with children and senior citizens.  They enjoyed meeting and spending the day with the different age groups at Wingate at Needham, Hearth, Ellis Memorial School, South End Head Start, East End House, and Newton Community Service Center.

To begin their Day of Service, the girls gathered in the Chapel to pray and to consider how they may share their love and gifts with others.  One student noted that “service” is helping someone “feel important and loved.”  At the end of the day, they reflected upon the ways they shared and received God’s love in the encounters they had.  The girls noted the warmth, welcome, and trust they received from the children placed in their care.  Other students acknowledged the gratitude and love of the elderly who appreciated their company and friendship.

In upcoming weeks, the sophomores will receive an introduction to the Hesed Program and will begin to discern their individual service placements, where they will commit to forty hours of direct service.  The girls are invited to consider how God is calling them to share their gifts, passions, and talents and then enter into a reciprocal relationship with those whom they meet at their service placements.
