Ice Hockey
The Middle School hockey team dominated the ice capping the season with an 8-2 record. The team scored 37 goals that included a hat trick plus one for top scorer (9 goals) and point-getter (10) E. Warner ’17 in a 6-0 win against Shady Hill. Second top scorer (7 goals) D. Mazzio-Manson ’16 contributed a second hat trick in the season’s final game, a 6-3 win against BB&N. MVP goalie M. Barrow ’16 was a force in the net. She logged three shut-outs and allowed the opposition only eleven shots to pass her line of defense. The Middle School hockey team was assistant-coached by former four-year varsity hockey player Nicki Hatton’10, a Tufts University sophomore.
Basketball “A”
Basketball “A” players pulled together as the season progressed, improving their court press, defense, and ball movement. In the second half of the season the players posted an impressive 41-10 win and came up short in five intense games where the point-spread was four or less. The final game sealed the hard work of the 2-14 season with a defining 32-19 win.C. Barreto ’16 had an outstanding offensive season leading the team with a total of 75 points. She was followed by the second top-scorer MVP A. Kyratzoglou ’16 who netted 55 points.
Basketball “B”
The Basketball “B” team started the season with a .500 record after four games, but could not eke out a win over the next five games until it rebounded by toppling Nashoba Brooks 22-7. The team finished the season 5-9, posting decisive margins in most winning games. Four of the losses were by five or fewer points. The team closed the season with a thrilling 21-17 come from behind win. Top scorer S. Tripp ’18 (51 points) notched a first double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. E. Kelly ’19 was the second top scorer with 37 points.
Club Swim Team
The nineteen members of the Middle and Upper School club swim team swam in joint meets against Dana Hall and Winsor. Some Middle Schoolers swam in as many as four meets. The Newton swimmers decisively won all meets by as many as 35 points.
