On January 14, eight Newton Country Day School alumnae varsity basketball players returned to campus to challenge this year’s varsity team. The alumnae hoopster brought a combined 31 years of NCDS varsity basketball to the parquet. Four of the returning alumnae, Meg Arsenault ’07, Beth Doyle ’07, Samira Pontes ’08, and Camila Pontes ’09, were co-captains of their respective teams. As student athletes, the eight alumnae played together for the 2006-2007 season which ended with their capturing the EIL “B” Pool Tournament trophy. For five-year varsity coach Alison Argentieri, the alumnae game was a wonderful opportunity to reunite with her former stars.
Julie White ’09, Katie Holland ’09, and Beth Doyle each netted six points. Julie teamed with Meg Arsenault for a stellar defense. Rose Corcoran ’08, Samira Pontes, and Camila Pontes played well defensively and offensively. Kim Lawton ’09 arrived for the second half to give the alumnae team an added boost. However, the trio of guard H. Duehren ’11, forward L. McDonough ’12, and guard M. Tierney ’11 lead the 2009-2010 team to a squeaker of a 36-32 victory.
