In Loving Memory of Kayla Corrigan '22

Dear Newton Country Day Community,

It is with profound sorrow that I share the heartbreaking news that one of our alumnae, Kayla Corrigan ’22, passed away on Christmas Eve as a result of a tragic house fire in Needham, MA. There are no words sufficient for such a loss. We hold Kayla’s family, her mother Christa, father James, and sister Alyssa, as well as her friends, her classmates from the Newton Country Day Class of 2022, and all who loved her close in our hearts during this time of deep grief.

Kayla was a valued and cherished member of our community. During her years at Newton Country Day, she embodied the values of our Sacred Heart mission through the care she showed to others and the sincerity she brought to her relationships. Her religious studies teacher, Maryanne Mignone, remembers her: “Kayla was one of the most imaginative, empathetic, humorous, poignant, intelligent, and thoughtful students I ever had the honor to teach. A woman of grit and determination, her vigilance was cultivated over many years, which enabled her to trust the wisdom she earned. Her strong, sacred heart was so full of life! The strength of her compassion and empathy knew no bounds.”

Information about memorial services has been added below. For those who wish to gather in prayer and fellowship as a community, please join us on campus for a prayer service in Kayla’s memory on Sunday, January 4, 2026, at 2pm in the Newton Country Day chapel.

As a community of faith, we turn to our all-loving God, whom we trust will sustain us through the unimaginable, during this time of tragedy. Please do not hesitate to reach out to any member of our school’s leadership team if you are in need of support or assistance during this difficult time.

May Kayla rest in peace, and may God’s love be a source of consolation and hope to all who mourn her loss.

Sincerely,

Jessica Hooper
