Alumnae Share their Experiences Working in Medicine
This winter, the Science Department welcomed alumnae to Anatomy and Physiology classes to speak to Upper School girls about their education and experiences in the medical field.

Liz Van Flandern, RN ’14 shared her experience in nursing school and as a practicing nurse. Van Flandern received her BS in Nursing from Fairfield University and works at New England Baptist Hospital in orthopedic specialties. She is currently applying to nurse practitioner graduate programs.

A graduate of Wellesley College, Alexa Riobueno-Naylor ’13 is a Clinical Research Coordinator in the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital. She is applying to clinical psychology graduate programs with the intention to specialize in child psychology.

Minty Theriault, MD ’07 presented about her residency at Tufts Medical Center and her plans to apply to fellowships in arthroplasty early next year. Theriault, an Orthopedic Surgery Resident, is currently on rotation at New England Baptist Hospital. She received her BS from Boston College, a master's degree in biomedical sciences from Tufts University, and attended Tufts University School of Medicine.

“When our alumnae come back and speak about what they have learned and accomplished, they provide our students with great hope for the future,” said science teacher Melissa Bleakney. “It is such a gift for these women to offer their time and share their wisdom. Of greatest value are their stories of overcoming obstacles or discovering that the path to actualizing their goals is not immediately evident or linear. These stories of perseverance inspire our current students to think flexibly and persist tenaciously in pursuit of their own dreams. As a teacher, I am delighted to see how these former students have developed their gifts and how they continue to lead lives guided by the Goals.”
