Celebrating Seniors Pursuing College Athletic Careers

Newton Country Day recently held an athletics ceremony honoring Sarah Brody ‘25 and Hope Moriarty ‘25, who will both continue their athletic careers at the collegiate level. Brody will be joining the Tufts University Women’s Softball team, while Moriarty will be joining the Women’s Rowing team at Colgate University.

Brody joined the Newton Country Day community in the seventh grade and began playing softball when she was seven years old. Throughout her time on the varsity softball team, Brody has earned numerous accolades, including being named EIL Player of the Year for the 2024 season. She was also awarded Most Valuable Player and recognized as All-NEPSAC and EIL All-League for both the 2023 and 2024 seasons and served as captain in both her junior year and senior years. Reflecting on how Newton  Country Day has prepared her for collegiate athletics, Brody shared, “Newton Country Day has made me feel confident in my ability to stay true to my values and maintain balance in my life.” Looking ahead to Tufts, she added, “When visiting the school, I could see the special tight-knit community at Tufts and knew that it was something I wanted to be a part of.”

Moriarty has been at Newton Country Day since she was in fifth grade and began rowing upon entering grade 9 in the Upper School. She is excited to continue her rowing career at Colgate, crediting their coaching staff as a major factor in her decision. “The coaching staff was beyond encouraging and supportive of my commitment and facilitated a balanced student-athlete lifestyle,” she said. “I am looking forward to the built-in, like-minded community that rowing has and will continue to provide for me.” Moriarty credits Newton Country Day with preparing her for the transition to college: “Newton Country Day has allowed me to grow in an atmosphere of wise freedom, and by encouraging good time management skills both in and outside of my studies.”

Brody and Moriarty were celebrated by classmates, faculty, coaches, and family members during the ceremony, a testament to the strong community that has supported them throughout their time at Newton Country Day. We look forward to cheering them on as they take this exciting next step.
