Expanded Student Success Center to Bring Holistic Academic Support to the Heart of Campus

At Newton Country Day, the Academic Support program helps students achieve their full potential through a holistic approach that builds skills, fosters independence, and cultivates confidence.

As part of the Library Transformation project, set to break ground in the summer of 2026, an expanded Student Success Center will place personalized academic support at the heart of campus, providing a welcoming space for all students to strengthen their skills. With tutoring, academic coaching, and strategies for organization, time management, and study skills, the Center will serve students across all grade levels while equipping teachers to help diverse learners thrive. In addition to building academic skills, the Student Success Center supports students in developing self-awareness, confidence, and a sense of agency in their learning, reinforcing the connection between academic growth and overall well-being.

Led by full-time Academic Support Coordinator Ms. Lindsey Tonge, the Center will normalize help-seeking, foster resilience, and ensure that every student has the tools to succeed at Newton Country Day and beyond. “Many students will, at some point in their journey through Newton Country Day, find themselves struggling with note-taking, study strategies, time management, or other related academic skills,” explains Tonge. “The Student Success Center will be a place where all students can come for help and support.”

Academic Support offers individualized and small-group guidance in academic skills (studying, note-taking, reading speed, reading comprehension, writing) and executive function skills (organization, time management, planning). Students in the Upper School may visit the Center during daily drop-in hours, and Middle School students may access support during their weekly Student/Teacher period.

The Academic Support team includes Ms. Tonge, Academic Support Coordinator for Grades 5-12 and Upper School Learning Specialist; Mrs. Libby Foster, Middle School Learning Specialist; and Dr. Crystal Mims, Director of Student Support. The expanded Student Support Center space in the redesigned Library will make Academic Support visible and accessible to all, encouraging all students to take advantage of its resources.
