Installation Celebrates 200 Years of Sacred Heart Education in America

In conjunction with the Bicentennial of Saint Rose Philippine Duchesne’s voyage to America, The Class of 2020 and Religion teacher Maryanne Mignone created an installation in Stairwell B. The ships in the stairwell, made on the fall sophomore retreat, were designed to resemble The Rebecca, the vessel that departed France with St. Philippine and four other Religious of the Sacred Heart, as they embarked on their journey to the United States.

The ships and hallway feature quotes from St. Madeleine Sophie Barat, St. Philippine, and Janet Erskine Stuart. On the reverse of each ship, students selected and copied their favorite verses from Psalm 139 and Luke’s Gospel Jesus Stills a Storm.
