Challenging girls to become women of
intellect, character, innovation, action, and faith

Middle School Students Place First and Second in National Sacred Heart Essay Contest
Newton Country Day Middle School students won the top spots in the Associated Alumnae and Alumni of the Sacred Heart (AASH) Middle School “Heart in Motion” essay contest. C. McKeigue ’27 placed first in the national contest, and C. Hickey ’27 placed second.

“Reading the words that the students wrote was inspiring enough, but having just heard them read their pieces brought my understanding to a whole different level,” said Director of Middle School Peter Badini. “The strength of conviction and the power of their confidence are a testimony to all the Sacred Heart students that have preceded them and a clarion call to all who will follow."

“In the classroom and community, we often ask the girls to reflect upon and take action on a specific Goal in focus; when a student embodies all Five, of their own accord, it is quite remarkable,” added Religion teacher Caroline Hurley ’13. “We could not be more proud of both students, their example of courage and confidence, and the inspiring words they shared. I'd like to think our Founding Mothers would recognize both students’ ‘hearts in motion’ as beautiful contributions to our Sacred Heart community.”
