Newton Country Day Celebrates Outstanding Achievements in Fall Season Athletics

Newton Country Day School wrapped another exciting fall athletic season with Volleyball capturing the Eastern Independent League (EIL) Tournament championship, and Volleyball, Soccer, and Field Hockey reaching the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) Tournaments. Newton Country Day student-athletes also won nine EIL All-League awards, eight EIL Honorable Mentions, four NEPSAC All-League awards, four NEPSAC Honorable Mentions, three NEPSAC Junior All-Star awards, one NEPTSA All-League, one Boston Globe All-Scholastic, one EIL Co-Player of the Year, and one EIL Coach of the Year. 

The NCDS SuperFan Awards, voted on by the community, are awarded to a student and a faculty member who are seen attending a variety of school events and increasing fan involvement through leadership, sportsmanship, and sheer spirit for the Blue and Silver. This season’s SuperFan Award winners are Arianna Adarme ‘28 and Ms. Kate Tremarche!


Upper School

Varsity Volleyball
EIL Tournament Champions
Overall Record: 9-5, EIL Record: 8-2

Season highlights included an exciting Homecoming win in 5 sets vs. Dana Hall. Despite falling to Dana at their Homecoming, the team was able to beat them in the playoffs, earning a spot in the EIL title game vs. Winsor, where they once again claimed the EIL tournament crown the next day.

Varsity Field Hockey
Overall Record: 14-6, EIL Record: 10-3

In another outstanding season, the Varsity Field Hockey team earned second place in both the EIL regular season and the EIL tournament. Season highlights included a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Lawrence Academy, dominating Dana Hall at both Homecomings with a combined score of 13-1, scoring 64 goals while holding opponents to 20, and a stellar performance by the goalies with 75 combined saves. The team also defeated Winsor twice, including a pivotal win during the EIL Tournament. The team earned a #5 seed in the New England Class C Tournament and delivered an unforgettable 2-1 overtime victory against King in the quarter-finals with a spectacular breakaway goal. The season concluded in the semifinals of the New England Tournament, where the team faced a fast and skilled New Hampton team,  ultimately falling 2-1.

Varsity Soccer
Overall Record: 5-7-3, EIL Record: 5-4-2

Varsity Soccer had, by New England Prep School Athletic Conference's judgment, its second most successful season in the past 25 years. They finished the season with a berth in the EIL playoffs and the 4th seed of 25 Class C teams from the six states. The team totaled 38 goals, which is the second most since 2009; 11 players scored multiple goals; and the team allowed zero or one goals in 11 out of their 18 games.

Varsity Cross Country
The runners on Varsity Cross Country brought a wealth of experience with them to the 2024 fall season. Highlights included: a successful first meet at Larz Anderson Park, beating both Beaver and Bancroft with perfect scores of 15-50 and setting PRs for six runners; traveling to the O’Connell Invitational meet, where they placed second out of eight teams, nabbing a trophy and medals for three runners who finished in the top 20; and a league meet against Portsmouth Abbey, Berwick, and Landmark at Gordon College’s beautiful course, where seven runners earned PRs.

Varsity Crew
The crew team welcomed 9 new novices who had a great first season on the water. Fall season highlights included an entry into the Head of the Charles Regatta and placing higher than last year, the team’s first overnight race in Saratoga NY, where all boats placed in the top half of the competition, and their first novice 4+ medaling in the Textile River Regatta. The athletes trained and raced with great enthusiasm and are looking forward to competition in the Spring season.

JV Field Hockey
Record: 10-3-1

Season highlights for JV Field Hockey included notable wins against Winsor, Pingree, and Dexter Southfield. The team outscored their opponents 25 to 10 and celebrated 6 shutout wins.

JV Soccer
Record: 10-4-1

JV Soccer had a season of hard work and improvement. Highlights included beating Dana both home and away, avenging an early season loss to Austin Prep with a 1-0 win the second time around, and a 2-0 win at Winsor, leading the JV Falcons to a 5 game win streak to end the season.

JV Volleyball worked on maintaining a high level of competitive energy, a skill that showed through hard-fought three set matches that turned into wins against teams like Pingree, Beaver and Milton Academy.

A Soccer
MS A Soccer finished the season with a record of 9-4-1, including a legendary win at Homecoming despite a penalty kick and beating Dana Hall at their own Homecoming.

B1 Soccer
MS B1 Soccer enjoyed an undefeated season, ending with a record of 10-0-3. Season highlights included: the first game against Fay, in which four players scored at least one goal each; a come-from-behind tying goal in the last five minutes against Brimmer & May; a victory against Beaver Country Day including an impressive save in net from a penalty kick; and a final season win against Dexter Southfield.

B2 Soccer
MS B2 Soccer had a successful season, ending with a 4-4-2 record and scoring a total of 16 goals (compared to only one goal last year). A season highlight was tying our Homecoming game with only a few minutes left in the game. B2 never gave up during a game and always got better as the game went on, often winning the second half.

Cross Country
The MS Cross Country team enjoyed a successful season, including first place wins at the Larz Anderson Invitational and Roxbury Latin Jamboree.

Field Hockey
MS Field Hockey ended the season with a 4-5-5 record. Season highlights included beating Dana Hall at Homecoming, scoring 6 goals in a single game, and scoring a winning goal in the last 2 minutes of the game.

A Volleyball
Despite some struggles this season, the MS A Volleyball team remained positive, welcoming, and uplifting. A season highlight was beating Dana Hall at their Homecoming after suffering a loss to them at ours.

B Volleyball
MS B Volleyball played with heart and hustle this fall. With most players having never played before, athletes worked diligently to respond to the ball with grace. By the end of the season, 90% of the team could serve over the net. Highlights of the season include beating Dana in two sets at their homecoming, and securing wins in competitive third set matches against Park.
