Newton Country Day Welcomes Sara York Banosian to Lead Hockey Programs

Newton Country Day is thrilled to welcome Sara York Banosian to our hockey programs. As a former collegiate athlete and campus leader at Boston College, she brings a deep understanding of the balance between competition, leadership, and personal growth that athletics can foster.

Raised in a family steeped in the ice hockey world, Banosian offers a wealth of experience in both athletics and education, along with a strong commitment to developing young people through sport. Her work as a coach with local ice hockey and field hockey teams reflects not only a strong foundation in the game but also a proven ability to build strong team cultures.

A standout athlete, Banosian is a Watertown High School Athletics Hall of Fame inductee and a two-time USA Field Hockey Association All-American. She continued her success at Boston College, where she made an immediate impact, starting all 22 games as a freshman and leading the team with 24 goals and 48 points, one of the top single-season performances in program history. During collegiate career at BC, she helped lead the team to three consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances and a Big East Championship, while also earning All-Conference honors twice and being named a two-time Northeast Regional All-American.

In addition to her playing accomplishments, Banosian is an accomplished coach, working with the Boston Junior Eagles and Waltham Youth Hockey, and serving as a varsity assistant coach at Watertown High School.

Banosian will serve as Head Coach of both Newton Country Day’s Varsity Field Hockey and Varsity Ice Hockey teams. We are excited to have her join our community and look forward to the experience, leadership, and excellence she will bring to our athletics program.
