Senior Athletes Commit to Boston College, Georgetown University

On Monday, November 18, Newton Country Day seniors O. Czech ’20 and K. McGauley ’20 committed to continue their athletic careers in college. Czech signed a National Letter of Intent to become a member of the Women’s Rowing Team at Georgetown University, and McGauley signed a Commitment Letter to join the Sailing Team at Boston College.

“Czech has been a valuable member of our team for the last four years, and I am thrilled to celebrate this exciting next step in her rowing career,” said Newton Crew Coach Kate Spelman. “Her success has been driven by her unrelenting work ethic, persistence, and determination. I know that she will go on to do great things as a member of Georgetown Women's Rowing.”

“McGauley's performance at the O’Day qualifier in Newport, RI (in 2018) is an example of the potent combination of experience, determination, and talent that makes her such a valuable member of the NCDS Sailing Team,” said NCDS Sailing Coach Chris Larsen. “At the end of a long day of competition in shifting conditions, our team's bid to qualify for the final came down to the last race. With everything on the line, Katelyn and her crew rose to the challenge and finished the race in position to compete in the final on Sunday. Grit and a will to win are just a few of the things that Katelyn brings to the dock, week in and week out.”
