Members of the Newton Country Day Class of 2018 were the 46th graduating class to participate in the Senior Project Program. During the final month of senior year, girls have the opportunity to step out of the classroom and gain insight at a project site of their choosing. An annual tradition, girls work with faculty advisors and site supervisors who monitor and mentor them during this off-site internship. Upon completion, girls create a presentation for their peers and teachers which describe the work they did and what they learned from the experience.

An exciting aspect of Senior Project is the opportunity to interact with and strengthen relationships with NCDS alumnae and parents. Lindsay Barletta ’18 worked in the Law Office of Cristina Ramirez ’98, while Charlotte Moynihan ’18 and Clara Parsons ’18 worked alongside Dr. Laura Riley P’11’14 at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Dr. Helen Boucher P’17 supervised Hannah Joyce ’18 at Tufts Medical Center. Joyce worked with resident doctors and nurses in the transplant referral center and teaching hospital, and assisted in performing physical exams on transplant and infectious disease patients. Joyce plans to enter a pre-med course of study in college.

Emma Montgomery surveying Boston's Harbor WalkMaria Levine ’18 worked at the Office of City Councilor Matt O’Malley. Her tasks included constituent communication, writing a Boston Globe Op-Ed piece, a research project on 5G/Wireless Infrastructure, and preparation for O’Malley’s podcast, O’Pod. Levine hopes to continue to intern at the office during her college breaks. Her experience made Levine excited to study Political Science at New York University.

Victoria Lynch ’18 chose the Boston Ballet wardrobe and costuming departments for her project. She learned about sewing, costume restoration, and fittings. In addition to working in the costume shop, she also worked at the Boston Opera House during the productions of “Sleeping Beauty,” “Balancaine,” and “La Sylphide” assisting with presets, quick changes, and stage management. The skills Lynch acquired at the Boston Ballet will assist her as she studies Theatrical Production and Design at Elon University.

Additional sites where the 63 senior girls shadowed included the Massachusetts Historical Society, Boston Harbor Now, Bristol Recording Studios, Drumlin Farm, Marlo Marketing, Irish International Immigrant Center, Dress For Success, and the Boston Red Sox.
