Shrek the Musical: Fairytales, Friendship, and Belonging

Upper School students performed their lively production of Shrek the Musical to sold-out audiences in Newton Country Day’s Sweeney-Husson Theatre last weekend. Based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film, Shrek the Musical is a fairy tale adventure about an unlikely hero who embarks on a life-changing journey. Packed with laugh-out-loud moments, the production kept audiences smiling from start to finish at all three performances.

As Newton Country Day focuses on Goal IV, the building of community as a Christian value, and the ethos of cherished belonging this year, Shrek the Musical reminds us that every person, and fairy tale creature, longs to be seen, known, and loved.

Dr. Corey Everly, director, reflected, “This cast has turned a swamp into a sanctuary–a place of joy, laughter, and radical inclusion. Through every rehearsal, they’ve shown what it means to ‘go to the margins’ and bring everyone home.”

Congratulations to the cast, crew, and all who made this production possible.
