Six Students Win National Award for Aspirations in Computing
Six Upper School students were selected from over 4,200 applicants to receive a National Center for Women and Information Technology (NCWIT) Award for Aspirations in Computing (AiC). Since 2017, NCDS students have received 25 AiC awards.

E. Jaynes ’22, E. Lesher ’21, E. Lesher ’22, F. Lyons ’22, M. Musto ’22, and G. Rosovsky ’21 were selected based on their aptitude and aspirations in technology and computing, as demonstrated by their computing experience, computing-related activities, leadership experience, tenacity in the face of barriers to access, and plans for post-secondary education. Each recipient will receive recognition and prizes; induction into the AiC Community of nearly 20,000 technical individuals; access to resources, scholarships, and internship opportunities; and more.

“It is so rewarding to watch our computer science program grow and to continually see our students recognized for their interest and hard work in the study of computer science,” said computer science teacher Martha Haddad. “This year is especially exciting because eight students took on the challenge of studying AP Computer Science A.”

The NCWIT Award for AiC honors students in Grades 9-12 who self-identify as women, genderqueer, or non-binary for their computing-related achievements and interests as part of an effort to encourage a diverse range of students to choose careers in technology.
