Spring Athletic Season Wraps Up with Awards and New Records

Newton Country Day’s spring athletic season wrapped up with a celebration of teams and individual achievements, including an EIL Player of the Year as well as ten EIL All-League recognitions, eight EIL Honorable Mentions, nine All-NEPSAC recognitions, and seven NEPSAC Honorable Mentions.

The NCDS SuperFan Award was established this year and is awarded to a student who is seen attending a variety of school events and increasing fan involvement through leadership, sportsmanship, and sheer spirit for the Blue and Silver. This season’s award winner is Caroline Mingle '28! And the Faculty SuperFan Awards go to Ms. Tremarche and Ms. Horwitz!


Upper School

Varsity Softball
Record: 10-3
The Varsity Softball team played at an elite level all season, recording a run differential of 157 to 47. There were first time home run hitters, outfielders making diving catches, and rock-solid pitching. Season highlights included a 10-3 win against Mount Saint Charles and wins against BB&N and Thayer.

Varsity Tennis
Record: 5-5
Varsity Tennis wrapped up a successful season, winning 5 of their last 6 matches to finish 5-3 in the EIL. Season highlights included big wins against Dana Hall, Portsmouth Abbey, Bancroft, Berwick, and Beaver, as well as winning 17 of 21 exhibition matches played this season.

JV Tennis
Record: 8-2
JV Tennis finished a solid season with every player on the team winning at least one match. Highlights included beating Rivers and Winsor; both of those matches included multiple individual matches that came down to tiebreaks.

Varsity Crew
The Varsity Crew team had its most successful season since 2020. Season highlights included: all four boats dominating Sacred Heart Greenwich, each winning by over a minute; fourth boat’s exciting 3-second victory over St. Mark’s in our first official race; third boat’s impressive 2+ minute win over SH Greenwich; first boat’s thrilling 1-second win over BB&N; both first and second boats qualifying for NEIRAs for the first time since 2020; and second boat’s third-place finish in the Petite Final at NEIRAs.

Varsity Golf
True to past seasons, the team enjoyed the lifelong sport of golf, with 10 of the 13 golfers on the team playing their way into the matches. The team improved throughout the season with the highlight being the final Tri-Match vs. Winsor and Portsmouth Abbey, ending in a 3-3 tie with both teams, ending the season on a high note.

Varsity Lacrosse
Record: 6-5
Over the course of their 11 games, Varsity Lacrosse had 11 players score 130 goals. Season highlights included a very competitive game against Winsor early in the season and a thrilling 17-16 win against Wheeler to secure a 3rd place finish in the EIL.

JV Lacrosse
Record: 4-2
The JV Lacrosse team was small but mighty this year, playing the entire season with only one substitute, guaranteeing lots of playing time for everyone and huge improvements over the course of the season.

Varsity Track & Field
Record: 9-6-1
In their first full season as an official Varsity sport, the Track & Field team had a record-breaking season. At the EIL Championships, the team held their own against schools with rosters of 40 or more girls, placing fifth out of eight schools in the league, setting three more school records, earning 11 medals and ribbons, and achieving 17 personal records. Eleven of the athletes, nearly three quarters of the team, qualified to compete at the New England Division II Championships, placing 10th out of 17 teams.

Varsity Sailing
The sailing program once again collaborated with Beaver Country Day to form a co-op team for the third year, with three sailors from Newton Country Day. The season consisted of race days at Community Boating, a new practice venue at Jamaica Pond, and weekend regattas.

With a co-op, the team awards are spread out across both schools. This year’s Most Valuable Sailor: Gracie Goodman ‘27

Middle School

Softball
Record: 7-0-2
Middle School Softball wrapped up an undefeated season powered by dominant pitching, a rock-solid defense, and an offense that steadily improved each game. The season was filled with positive moments such as back to back to BACK homeruns against BB&N, dominating shutouts against Rivers and LCA, a true team-win against Dana Hall, and a 1st-inning home run over the fence against Dexter Southfield.

A Lacrosse
Record: 9-0
Middle School A Lacrosse celebrated a second undefeated season in a row, with an even more competitive schedule this year! The team outscored their opponents 96-34 and won a shutout victory against Beaver Country Day (12-0). Officials complemented a victory at Nobles, describing the game as “high school level play”.

B Lacrosse
Record: 4-3
Middle School B Lacrosse improved on their skills throughout the entire season, working as a team to learn the rules of the game and move the ball together. A season highlight was a thrilling win against Dana Hall.

Tennis
Record: 2-6
Middle School Tennis had a strong season with 30 players representing all four grades. Season highlights included a sweep against Beaver Country Day in the team's first win, a hard-fought tiebreaker against Dedham Country Day, and a thrilling 4–3 victory over Nashoba Brooks.
