Falcons Celebrate an Exciting Fall Season

Newton Country Day celebrated the conclusion of another competitive fall season with recognition of team and individual achievements. The fall season ended with an EIL Player of the Year, nine EIL All-League recognitions, five EIL Honorable Mentions, five All-NEPSAC recognitions, and five NEPSAC honorable mentions. Across Middle and Upper School, the Falcons played 154 total games and earned 90 wins. 

The NCDS SuperFan Award is awarded to a student and faculty member who is seen attending a variety of school events and increasing fan involvement through leadership, sportsmanship, and sheer spirit for the Blue and Silver. This season’s award winners are Clare Hooper '28 and Mr. Mark Taylor!

Upper School

Varsity Crew
The crew team was proud to place in the top half of competition in almost half of the races they competed in across all boats. For the first time since 2019, they re-qualified a boat for the annual Head of the Charles Regatta. Highlights included traveling to Saratoga Springs, New York to compete in the prestigious Head of the Fish Regatta where the U17 boat came in 5th place, Varsity in 9th, and JV 10th

JV Field Hockey 
Record: 6-1-2

JV Field Hockey had a very successful season, not only with their strong record, but with their players' confidence and teamwork. The players showed relentless effort at both games and practices.

Varsity Field Hockey 
Record: 8-6-1
Season highlights include wins against Dana Hall at both Homecomings, an exciting overtime tie against Pingree, and a memorable overtime win against Beaver Country Day. Led by 10 seniors, the team consistently supported and cheered for one another, worked together towards their common goals, and approached every practice and game with joy and purpose.

JV Soccer 
Record: 5-3-3
The JV soccer team had a roster of 25 this season, including 10 returning players and 15 new Grade 9 players, all who had a desire to learn, play hard, and have fun. A highlight of the season was their wins against Dana Hall at both Homecomings.

Varsity Soccer
Record: 10-4-3
Varsity Soccer celebrated a successful fall season with 10 overall wins for only the third time in the past 25 years. They earned their eighth (and second year in a row) NEPSAC tournament invitation. Their 47 goals scored are the most in the past 16 years and the 15 goals the team allowed were the fewest in the past 27 years. Notable wins were against Dana Hall, Berwick, and Portsmouth Abbey.

Cross Country 
The team eagerly took on tough courses and fierce competitors this season. Their dedicated training and competitive spirit helped them place in third at the EIL Championships, three whole places higher than last year and with PRs for their top five runners. At the NEPSTA Division II meet, they finished a respectable 8th against top competitors, with two runners finishing in the top ten.

Middle School 

Cross Country 
MS Cross Country's season was marked by immense personal growth with every runner discovering a new strength. From navigating the woodsy, winding trails at Meadowbrook to conquering the legendary giant hill at the Larz Anderson Park invite, the team tackled rocky terrain and steep climbs with determination and grit.

B Volleyball
Record: 8-3

A season highlight was a big win against Dana Hall at Homecoming that came down to three sets. The team showed tremendous growth throughout the season as both volleyball players and teammates.

A Volleyball 
Record: 9-5
The team improved each as individual players and as teammates throughout the season. A highlight for the season was their win against Winsor winning back-to-back sets, showing their determination and confidence.

B2 Soccer
Highlights include a well-matched game against Park School that ended in a tie, and a hard-fought game against Meadowbrook, bringing the goal differential down from their first matchup from 7 to 1. With each game played, the team went back to practice motivated to improve components of the game.

Record: 6-6

The team finished the season with dominant wins and close, hard-fought losses that showed their grit. Players grew in their fundamentals, confidence, and teamwork, and every player stepped up to take a turn being goalkeeper!

A Soccer
Record: 7-4-2
Season highlights include a Homecoming win against Dana Hall and a rematch victory over Fay, where the team showed their perseverance in a 3-1 win. Throughout the season, many new goal scorers emerged, and the team always worked together.

Field Hockey
Record: 7-2-2

Team highlights include an impressive win against Austin Prep, a tied game against Dexter, and two dominations over Dana Hall. The team impressively outscored opponents 30 to 6 with seven shutouts. From their goalie, sweep, and defense, to their dynamic midfield, and fierce forwards, the team played as a collective unit and always played hard, fast, strong, and disciplined.
