Plan Your Visit

We encourage prospective families to come visit the school beginning in mid-September. Appointments are available each day at 8:30 a.m., 10:00. a.m., 11:30 a.m., and 1:00 p.m., with an additional slot at 2:00 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. Your appointment will include both a tour and an interview, and you should allow approximately an hour and a half for the visit. Please call the Admissions Office at (617) 244-4246 to schedule your visit.

In addition to the tour and interview, there are a number of other opportunities to get to know the school during the admissions process:

  • Each fall, Newton Country Day hosts two Prospective Parent Coffees. During these informal morning events, members of the Admission Office and faculty members answer questions and help prospective parents get to know the school.
  • Each year, Admission hosts an Open House the first Sunday of November so that prospective students and parents may come to know our dynamic community and learn about our balanced program of academics, arts, athletics and service.
  • We also offer optional Shadow Days for Middle School applicants as an opportunity for prospective students to visit classes and meet current students and faculty. Designated dates begin in November and run through February. Keep in mind that these shadow days occur during the admission process and not post-decision. The preliminary application form must be submitted before you schedule a Shadow Day, but you have until January 15 to submit all other parts of the application (essays, recommendations, etc.). Accepted applicants to Upper School will have the opportunity to visit classes in the spring.

We will offer two Shadow Days in the spring for accepted 9th grade students.

The preliminary application form must be submitted before you schedule a Shadow Day, but you have until January 15th to submit all other parts of the application (essays, recommendations, etc.). Shadow Days take place from 7:45 a.m.-1 p.m.

To sign up for a Shadow Day, please call the Admissions Office at (617) 244-4246 or register through your Ravenna account. Applicants in Grade 8 should register by phone.
  • Regional Receptions, hosted by current families, take place in January and present informal occasions to meet with members of our community in smaller settings.
What makes NCDS special is how close knit the community is. Everybody is able to rely on their classmates and teachers for help and guidance, which is easy due to the small class size.M. Ropelewski ’19
