Saturday Workshops

Get to Know Newton!

Middle School girls are invited to Get to Know Newton through hands-on workshops on Saturday, January 11 from 10:30 a.m.-noon. This year, NCDS faculty will teach three workshops for girls currently in grades 4-6. Descriptions are below. Registration for these limited enrollment workshops is now available through your Ravenna account. These workshops are free, but we invite you to bring a canned good or any unopened, non-perishable food item, which will be donated to the Newton Food Pantry.

Engineering Design
Explore your creative side and refine your logical thinking and problem-solving skills! Learn about circuits as you create personalized light-up LED name tags. Apply the Engineering Design process as you build and test prototypes that improve access to clean water.

Community Service
Join us for a morning of service! First, you will learn about the wonderful work of the Boston Healthcare for the Homeless Program. Their team of doctors, nurses, and social workers strives to ensure that all of our neighbors in Boston—even those experiencing homelessness—can access essential medical services. Then you will do a hands-on project to make practical gifts for the homeless individuals served by BHCHP. Bring your open heart and crafting skills!

Come build a balanced plate at Newton Country Day! You will learn the foundations of nutrition through an arts and crafts activity using a nutrition tool called the Balanced Plate. You will then apply your new-found information to prepare and cook a balanced plate meal as a group and enjoy the meal together. The cooking activity will be free of dairy, gluten, and peanuts/tree nuts. If your daughter has any additional food allergies, please call the school so adjustments can be made.
