Tuition Assistance

Newton Country Day School of the Sacred Heart allocates more than $5 million in Tuition Assistance and ancillary expenses to 30% of the student body. We seek to provide access and affordability to all qualified students, regardless of family background and structure, ethnicity, financial ability, or geographic location. We recognize that a Newton Country Day education is a significant investment, and we appreciate the commitments and sacrifices all of our families make to be a part of our community.

Our Tuition Assistance program provides monetary assistance to those students who cannot otherwise afford the cost of attending or actively participating in the life of the school. Awards are based on demonstrated financial need. While every effort is made to support families, Newton Country Day School may not be able to fully fund the needs of all deserving students.

Newton Country Day utilizes the Clarity Application to determine a family’s level of financial need. To get started, visit the website and create an account. The application typically takes less than 30 minutes to complete. You can share your application with any additional schools that accept the Clarity Application.

Returning families receive their preliminary tuition assistance award letters with their re-enrollment contracts in early February.

Accepted applicants receive their tuition assistance award along with their admission decision on March 10.

Newton Country Day School cannot guarantee the availability of funds for late applicants.

What if parents are single, separated, divorced, or remarried?

The Tuition Assistance Committee expects that all custodial and non-custodial parents be financially responsible for their child’s education. Therefore, all parents are required to complete the Clarity Application, though parents not in the same household will have their own confidential portal. If a parent has remarried, the assets of that parent will be considered along with those of the biological parents; individual circumstances are taken into consideration.

Does Tuition Assistance cover fees over and above tuition?

Students may receive some aid for the following expenses: books, uniforms, and transportation. Students may apply for financial assistance for unique travel opportunities and co-curricular events. The covered expenses will be funded using specific allowances (uniforms and books) or reimbursements equal to the percentage granted for tuition (transportation). We have limited financial assistance for non-tuition-related expenses.

How is the consideration of the application made?

The Tuition Assistance Committee reviews all completed Clarity Applications and supplemental documents. The Committee also considers other mitigating factors such as local cost of living, unusual compulsory family expenses, and unforeseen financial changes such as the loss of a business or job. Thus, explaining any extenuating circumstances regarding financial need in the space provided in the Clarity Application is helpful.

If a family receives a Tuition Assistance award in the first year, can they expect approximately the same level of aid in future years?

Yes, provided your financial situation does not change. However, tuition assistance is reviewed and awarded each year independently of the previous year. Families must re-apply for aid each year by submitting the Clarity Application and all corresponding documents by the deadline (December 1 for returning families). Often the demand for Tuition Assistance exceeds the Tuition Assistance budget. As such, the School may not be able to meet the needs of all new or currently enrolled families.
