In the midst of your busy schedules, we hope you will consider volunteering your time at Sophie’s Place, a favorite NCDS experience of service, food and fellowship with the elderly poor in Boston.
On designated Saturdays throughout the year, each class in the Upper School hosts “Sophie’s Place,” a festive luncheon in the NCDS Dining Room for a group of twenty plus elderly friends from HEARTH, an organization dedicated to ending elder homelessness in Boston. At Sophie’s Place, NCDS students prepare and serve a nutritious and delicious meal. Students sit down to eat with our guests from HEARTH, offering the gift of presence and friendship. Over the past eight years, students have come to know and adore many of the residents whose charm, humor, kindness and colorful stories bring joy and wisdom to our community.
We hope you may consider joining us one Saturday this year and get a taste for yourself of the goodness of this experience. You won’t be disappointed! Whether you love to cook, listen to stories, connect with current Sacred Heart students and alumnae and/or meet some wonderful elderly friends, this is a wonderful way to live the Goals, make a difference in the lives of others and be personally enriched.
