Heart In Motion

In 2021, two Middle School students won the top spots in the Associated Alumnae and Alumni of the Sacred Heart (AASH) Middle School “Heart in Motion” national essay contest. C. McKeigue ’27 placed first in the national contest, and C. Hickey ’27 placed second.

“In the classroom and community, we often ask the girls to reflect upon and take action on a specific Goal in focus; when a student embodies all Five, of their own accord, it is quite remarkable,” said Religion teacher Caroline Hurley ’13. “We could not be more proud of both students, their example of courage and confidence, and the inspiring words they shared. I'd like to think our Founding Mothers would recognize both students’ ‘hearts in motion’ as beautiful contributions to our Sacred Heart community.”

The prompt for the essays was: Just as St. Madeleine Sophie and St. Philippine knew civil unrest and public health crises, we now find our world facing similar challenges. In which of their values do you find strength, hope and inspiration to be a change agent that will help heal the discord and division in our daily life? What are you doing to put your “Heart in Motion”?
