Business Office Update: Invoices available Fri. May 8
Invoices for the 2026-27 school year will be available on the Veracross Parent Portal beginning Fri. May 8. Please confirm your VCPay settings—your selected account for deposit payments may differ from the one you'd like to use for tuition payments.
Below is a summary of the first tuition payment:
- One-Pay Plan: Full tuition, along with activity fee, will be withdrawn on Jul. 1
- Two-Pay Plan: Half of the tuition, along with the activity fee, will be withdrawn on Jul. 1
- Ten-Pay Plan: 10% of tuition, along with activity fee and payment plan fee, will be withdrawn on Fri. Jun. 5 or Sat. Jun. 20
- If you opted in to Tuition Refund Insurance, that will be withdrawn with your first payment.

Students enrolled in our private music lesson program via Note-worthy Studios will perform their prepared solo programs at the recital. The evening will begin in our Chapel and conclude in Duchesne Hall. Light refreshments will be served.
Mass for the Solemnity of the Ascension: Thu. May 14
The school community will celebrate the Feast of the Ascension Mass during the school day. Students are reminded to dress appropriately for the occasion.
Mass for the Feast of St. Madeleine Sophie Barat & Junior Ring Ceremony: Thu. May 21 at 9am, Boston College's Trinity Chapel
The school community will celebrate the Feast of St. Madeleine Sophie Barat with Mass at Trinity Chapel on Boston College’s Newton campus. Students are reminded to dress appropriately for the occasion. The liturgy includes the blessing of class rings for the Class of 2027. Commencement: Thu. Jun. 4 at 10am, Sunken Garden
Commencement will be held in the Sunken Garden. Generally, the ceremony lasts about 90 minutes. All are welcome! Seniors must arrive by 7:30am. Individual graduate portraits and the class photograph are taken promptly, so attendance is essential. Seniors wear white attire appropriate for the occasion. Prayers from the Heart (new website!)
Let the Prayers from the Heart community pray for your special prayer intention by submitting a prayer request via the Newton Country Day website, with the option to request confidentiality. Parents/caregivers who are interested may also volunteer to pray for the intentions of the community by subscribing to the Prayers from the Heart community also located on the website.
Absence Policy
If a student is going to be absent or tardy, parents/caregivers should notify the school before 9am by submitting an attendance note on the Veracross Parent Portal or calling the Academic Office directly (MS: (617) 559-4750, US: (617) 559-4747). In the event of a foreseeable absence, a student should communicate with her advisor and teachers to formulate a plan for meeting academic expectations during her absence.
Lateness Policy
If a student arrives late to school (after 7:45am for MS, 7:55am for US), she is to report immediately to either the MS Academic Office (MS), or to the Front Desk (US), to be recorded present before going to class. Late arrivals may only be excused by a note from a medical professional.
Early Dismissal Policy
Students may not leave before the end of the school day without permission from a parent/caregiver. Any student who has an appointment that necessitates being dismissed early must have this information noted either by her parents/caregivers entering it directly via the Veracross Parent Portal or by calling the Academic Office directly (MS: (617) 559-4750, US: (617) 559-4747). Students must sign out at the Front Desk when they leave. Please make every effort to align early dismissal times with the end of class period time to reduce distraction to classroom learning.
Grades 7 & 8 Dance at St. Sebastian's School: Fri. May 1 from 7-9pm
Students in Grades 7 and 8 are invited to St. Sebastian's School for a spring dance. Entertainment includes a DJ and games. Please note that student-athletes are required to attend their games or practices prior to the event.
Grades 5 & 6 Camp Hazen Virtual Meeting for Parents/Caregivers: Tue. May 5 at 7pm, virtual
Students will attend this overnight excursion from Wed. May 13 to Fri. May 15. A link for this virtual meeting for parents/caregivers will be emailed on the day of the meeting.
Grade 5 Voyagers Excursion to Stone Zoo: Wed. May 6
Grade 5 students will visit Stone Zoo in Stoneham, MA. The students will explore the connections between science and art through hands-on learning experiences. After collecting data and observing the animals, students will complete further analysis, create graphs and make conclusions. They will also have the opportunity to select an animal to sketch, focusing on its form, features, and movement with close attention to detail. This experience offers a wonderful opportunity to blend observation, creativity, and critical thinking. Students should dress for the weather and wear comfortable walking shoes.
Grade 7 Outward Bound Overnight Trip Parent/Caregiver Virtual Meeting: Wed. May 6 at 7pm, virtual
Grade 7 students will attend an overnight excursion at Catherine Stone Island in Boston Harbor from Thu. May 14 to Fri. May 15. A link for this virtual meeting will be emailed to parents/caregivers on the day of the meeting.
MS Celebration of the Arts: Thu. May 7 at 5pm
All MS students will perform in the Chapel and Theatre, and their artwork will be displayed in Barat Commons for this final culminating curricular arts experience! Students will wear their ballet slippers and provide their own base layer that will be assigned by our costume designer. All other costuming elements are provided for them by the school. Rehearsals will take place during the school day on Mon. May 4 and Tue. May 5. All rehearsals leading up to the performance are mandatory. Prior to the performance on Thu. May 7, students will be provided a hearty goûter and will remain on campus in order to prepare for the performance.
BC High's Spring-A-Palooza Social for Grades 7 & 8: Fri. May 8 from 6-8pm
Students in Grades 7 and 8 are invited to BC High's Arrupe Division Spring-A-Palooza Social. Admission is $20 and requires a signed permission slip, which was distributed to students. There will be inflatables, mini golf, snacks and games.
Spring Social at Xaverian Brothers High School for Grades 7 & 8: Fri. May 8 from 6:30-9pm
Students in Grades 7 and 8 are invited to a beach-themed spring social at Xaverian Brothers High School. $20 for admission includes snacks, ice cream, games, music, and dancing. Students should wear clothing that is appropriate for a school function (no bathing suits or revealing clothing). The social will be held in the Varsity Gym/Simoni Lobby.
Grade 6 Explorers Excursion to The Adams Street Shul: Mon. May 11
Grade 6 students will walk to The Adams Street Shul, a Modern Orthodox Jewish synagogue in Newton. The students will participate in a guided tour focused on the history of this holy space, the sacred symbols, and the beauty of the Torah. They will listen to Rabbi Mordechai Rackover as he guides them through the prayer traditions of the Jewish faith. Students should dress for the weather and wear comfortable walking shoes.
Grade 7 Outward Bound Overnight Trip: Thu. May 14 - Fri. May 15
Grade 7 students will participate in the Outward Bound Overnight Trip on Catherine Stone Island. Arrival at school on Thu. May 14 is at 7:30am. We must depart promptly at 7:45am to make the ferry departure time to the island. We will return to school at 4pm on Fri. May 15. Please refer to the email sent directly to families for additional details and a packing list for students.
Grade 8 Washington, D.C. Trip Meeting for Families: Thu. May 14 at 7pm, Duchesne Hall
Grade 8 parents/caregivers are invited to an informational meeting about the upcoming Washington, D.C. trip. Our faculty and representatives from Grand Classroom will review the details of the trip. Students are welcome to attend.
Grade 6 Speeches Invite for Parents/Caregivers: Mon. May 18 from 1:15-3pm, MS (third floor)
Grade 6 parents and caregivers are invited to join us in the MS to hear the Grade 6 English class speeches. The students are divided into groups of 3-4 and are assigned a room along with a cohort of MS audience members. Visitors must sign in at the front desk and will then meet in Mater Commons on the third floor at 1:15pm to receive their room assignments. Speeches will conclude at 2pm. Following the speeches, there will be a goûter and an info session from 2-3pm in Room 324.
MS Math Placement Tests and Social: Tue. May 19 from 4-6pm, on campus
All new students joining the MS in the fall will take math placement tests from 4-5pm. Following the tests, current students in grades 5-7 will join the new students in community-building activities to welcome their new classmates to the school. Current Grade 8 students are invited to volunteer as orientation leaders for the event. This event is for incoming and current students only.
Grade 5 Voyagers Excursion to Crane Estate: Wed. May 20
Building on their lessons about marine ecosystems and human impact on the environment, students will travel with their Science and English classes to the Crane Estate in Ipswich. They will participate in a class called “Dunes and Beaches,” which focuses on observation and identification of local flora and fauna through a guided dune walk, hands-on discovery stations, and a beach wrack line survey. Students will practice descriptive writing, especially setting and sensory details, as part of their English curriculum. Because this program includes significant time outdoors, students should dress for the weather and should wear sturdy footwear.
Class of 2030 Social: Thu. May 21 from 5:30-6:30pm
Incoming members of Grade 9 will gather with the entire Class of 2030! Students will meet the members of their Orientation Group, connect with their Senior Mentors, and learn about summer assignments. Prior to this event, math placement tests take place for students new to the school. This event is for students only.
Grade 8 Co-President Election: Tue. May 26
Current Grade 7 students interested in leadership opportunities are encouraged to run for the Grade 8 co-president positions. Students in grades 5-7 will vote in the election, which is based on 5-minute speeches that respond to writing prompts from Ms. Barber. The two co-presidents help to lead MS announcements, plan activities for students, organize charitable events, and serve as role models for their peers. Grade 8 Trip to Washington, D.C.: Wed. May 27 - Fri. May 29
Students meet their chaperones at 6am on Wed. May 27 at the American Airlines ticket counter at Boston Logan Airport. At the conclusion of the trip, students can meet their families at the JetBlue baggage claim area at 8:30pm on Fri. May 29.

Participation in After School Activities
This is a reminder that any student who is not present at school by 10am is not permitted to participate in after school activities or events, including sports and performing arts.
Please Refrain from Front Desk Drop-Offs
We kindly ask MS parents/caregivers to refrain from dropping off items for their children during the school day. This policy is intended to minimize classroom disruptions and promote personal responsibility among our students. Please ensure your child arrives at school with everything she needs for the day, including her athletic attire or uniform, water bottle, homework, and any other necessary materials for class. Additionally, MS students are not permitted to retrieve items from the front desk until the end of the school day. Thank you for your understanding and support.
MS After-School Program
The MS After-School Program is available for all students until 5:30pm each day. Students who take the Boston or MetroWest buses will be supervised until bus departure. Students should be picked up within 15 minutes of the end of the school day, or directly after school activities (sports or musical). Any student unattended for more than 15 minutes after school/sports/musical dismissal is expected to sign in to the After-School Program on the third floor. Once a MS student leaves campus at the end of the day, the assumption is that she has left campus for the day. AP Exams: Mon. May 4 - Fri. May 15
Exam Requirements and Guidelines
- All students enrolled in an AP course are required to take the AP exam. The College Board mandates that specific AP exams can only be administered on the assigned day and time. Students cannot be admitted into a testing room once an exam has begun.
- Students must bring their own fully charged testing device and charging cord.
- The College Board strictly prohibits cell phones and smart watches in all testing rooms and during breaks.
- Extended-time exams begin at the same time as standard testing; students unsure about their eligibility for extended time should contact Ms. Tonge.
Attendance Policy
- Juniors taking morning AP exams are expected to join their afternoon academic classes after lunch break in the Dining Commons.
- Juniors and sophomores taking afternoon AP exams are excused from their morning classes. These students should check in at the front desk in time to be seated in the exam room at 11:30am.

Grade 9 Service with Roxbury Latin at Venture Volunteers: Sat. May 9
Grade 9 students are invited to participate in community service with Grade 9 students from Roxbury Latin at Volunteer Ventures in Lexington. Students will work in teams to give life to Goals III and IV through building desks, chairs, and accessible benches for those in need. This event is expected to take place 9:30am-12:30pm with limited spots which will be honored on a first-come, first-served basis (students should see the sign-up on Google Classroom). Please note: transportation is not provided and all students will need to arrange to be dropped-off and be picked-up from Volunteer Ventures: 4 Bryant Road, Lexington, MA 02420. One-Act Play: The New Margo, Fri. May 15 at 6pm, Duchesne Hall
Please join us in Duchesne Hall for an evening of mystery as the Acting Workshop class presents The New Margo by Stephen Gregg. It's only four days until their freshman classes begin, and Margo didn't come back to the dorm last night. When Margo finally arrives, she's been made over: stylish new glasses, a new hairstyle, and a whole new attitude. She looks fantastic! There's just one problem: Margo isn't Margo.
Sacred Heart Alumnae Induction: Tue. May 26 at 8am, Chapel (seniors only)
Grade 12 Activities in May
Members of the Class of 2026 will conclude their Senior Project and participate in mandatory class activities Tue. May 26 - Fri. May 29. Students should expect to be in school for the length of a regular school day each day, plus the overnight retreat to the Craigville Retreat Center from Thu. May 28 - Fri. May 29. Senior Project Symposium & Class of 2026 Cookout: Wed. May 27 from 3-5pm, Arches Gym and Sunken Garden
Seniors will present their Senior Projects in the Arches Gym at 3pm. The Class of 2026 Cookout will follow at 4pm in the Sunken Garden. All senior families are invited.
Senior Retreat: Thu. May 28 - Fri. May 29
The Class of 2026 will participate in an overnight retreat at the Craigville Retreat Center in Centerville, MA. All seniors are expected to participate as a requirement for graduation. We will depart from campus at 8:15am on Thu. and return by 2:30pm on Fri. Students should bring a sleeping bag or linens, pillowcase, and towel. Students may bring snacks, though food and beverages are not allowed in sleeping quarters. Contact Ms. Cerami at x4936 or Dr. Potter at x4757 with questions.
Grade 9 & 10 Semi-Formal Dance: Fri. May 29 from 7:30-9:30pm, Arches Gym
Members of the Classes of 2028 and 2029 are invited to a semi-formal dance in the Arches Gym. Students must arrive no later than 8pm and may not be dismissed until 9:30pm. The cost of attending the dance is $10 per person. To attend the dance, students should submit their signed permission form, which includes a link to payment, by Fri. May 22. Students are welcome to attend the dance alone, with a group of friends, or with an invited guest from any school. Additionally, the school has extended an invitation to all ninth and tenth grade students from Belmont Hill, Roxbury Latin, and St. Sebastian’s to attend this dance, as many of them have done for our students this year! All guests (whether or not they are the personal guest of an NCDS student) must fill out the guest information form, which includes a guest contract to be signed by their school prior to arrival and a link to purchase tickets. May Elections
US elections for student leadership positions will be held throughout May. Students have received information about leadership positions and selection procedures through announcements and emails. Any student wishing to run for office must have a re-enrollment contract on file in the Business Office and all financial obligations to the school up-to-date.
US Advisory Assignments: May (Grade 9) and Jun. (Grades 10-12)
Each US student is assigned a faculty advisor whose role is to support and scaffold the student’s academic and interpersonal development. In May, students in Grade 9 (who were assigned their advisor this year) will discuss their options for a Grade 10 advisor with their current advisor to help discern which faculty members might be a good match for their needs next year. On Mon. Jun. 1, students in rising grades 10-12 will have the opportunity to indicate their top 6 choices for a 2026-27 advisor from a list of available faculty members. Rising Grade 11 and 12 students have the option to stay with their current advisor. When selecting a new advisor, not every student will be assigned her top choice.

Save the Date! Hesed Program Project Proposals (Class of 2028): due Fri. Jun. 5
Over the past several months, students in Grade 10 have received an introduction to the Hesed Project, a required 40-hour community service commitment that is integrated into the Religion 11 curriculum. Students are strongly advised to complete these projects during the summer prior to junior year. Given the considerable commitment of time that Hesed entails, spring semester is a good time to reach out to service agencies to begin planning a schedule that is compatible with your family’s summer plans. The deadline for summer service project proposals (or a deferral to complete Hesed during the school year) is Fri. Jun. 5, though summer proposals will continue to be reviewed in the weeks following. Laptop Information for Incoming US Students
The US utilizes a 1:1 laptop program, which means that students bring their own computers to school each day. This letter outlines device specification recommendations for all students entering the US.

- Congratulations to the Class of 2026 on committing to the next chapter in their academic journeys!
- Fri. May 1 is National College Decision Day: Students must submit an enrollment deposit to one college/university, typically by Fri. May 1, to secure their spot in the freshman class. Students who have accepted a spot on a waitlist will most likely not receive an update from the institution until after Fri. May 1. Therefore, students must have an enrollment plan engaged at another school. It is important to stay in conversation with your college counselor and provide updates if you are invited to accept a place in the freshman class from a waitlist.
- Accommodations in college: Grade 12 students who currently have academic accommodations at NCDS may also be eligible for accommodations in college. Please visit the website for the Office of Accessibility for a college to see what accommodations they offer and how to apply for them. If you need help applying or have questions, please contact Ms. Tonge at the NCDS Academic Support Office.
