Student Life

Students at Newton enjoy a wide variety of extracurricular activities. In both the Middle and Upper Schools, committees and clubs offer students the opportunity to learn, play and collaborate with the support of faculty advisers on projects and events ranging from the environment to the Model UN.

Cherished traditions that bond Newton to Sacred Heart schools around the nation and world punctuate the academic year. None is more anticipated than Congè, a surprise in-school holiday organized by the Committee of Games.

The Network Exchange provides students with the opportunity to spend a term at any of the 22 other Sacred Heart schools in the United States. Similarly, each year Newton hosts students from other schools within the Network; these exchanges foster lifelong friendships and cement the bond that our alumnae feel to graduates from Sacred Heart schools around the country.

Each year students participate in programs designed to refine their skills in problem solving, cooperation, leadership, respect for others, and teamwork. These overnight trips, to sites such as Camp Hazen in Connecticut or Washington, D.C., allow students to explore and appreciate their relationship with the natural world. The culmination of the experiential education program at Newton is the Senior Project, an off-site internship that takes place in the final quarter of senior year.
